Ørsted – Finland collaboration possibilities in offshore wind

TRAF facilitated a delegation trip to meet up Ørsted in Copenhagen on 13th of December 2022. A number of TRAF member companies from various angles took the opportunity to discuss and to identify closer OW collaboration opportunities with Ørsted globally and in Finland.  Ørsted gave good insights about the market developments within foundations, infrastructure and special vessels & logistics as well as information about their decarbonization program and innovation activities. The world leading Finnish technology expertise and know-how on ice and arctic conditions were one of the things that were seen as one of the key differentiation factors within the growing OW market.

Raising the international profile of Finnish offshore wind at WindEnergy Hamburg 2022

WindEnergy Hamburg is a leading on & offshore conference bringing together over 1,400 exhibitors and 35,000 visitors globally. Team Renewable Arctic Finland hosted an exhibition stand at the conference as part of the Finnish Pavilion. On 26th September TRAF co-hosted a networking event with Business Finland, Embassy of Finland in Berlin and Metsähallitus to raise awareness of Finnish expertise and offering on offshore wind. Both conference presence and the side event provided visibility to TRAF members in an international setting and provided valuable information on the latest international trends and dynamics in offshore wind.

Maritime opportunities between Canada and Finland

TRAF organised a delegation trip to Canada to meet Canadian maritime players in October 2022. Finnish maritime technology suppliers are global leaders of maritime decarbonisation technologies in the arctic conditions. The trip provided the FI companies an opportunity to showcase their in-depth expertise and discuss how their solutions could help maritime sector to tackle the challenges related decarbonisation of vessel fleets. Mutual opportunities were discussed, for example, on future fuels, hybridisation of vessels, and energy efficiency and storage. Canadian participants gave a very good feedback for our delegation and arrangements, we do have a distiguished brand and credible reputation among key players in Canada. We are looking forward to collaborating even more in the future between Canada and Finland!

UK-Finland opportunities in offshore wind

Together with Finnish Embassy in the UK and Business Finland, TRAF hosted a small networking event at the Finnish Ambassador’s residence in London on 1st November 2022. The event was attended by TRAF member companies and UK businesses, decision-makers and regional actors. The event provided a bi-directional gateway to discuss OSW developments in both Finland and in the UK, helping to identify areas for closer collaboration.

The 10th Arctic Business Intelligence Forum 21.11.

The 10th Arctic Business Intelligence Forum brought Finnish companies and ambassadors together to talk about business opportunities in renewable energy and maritime. Ambassadors and other embassy representatives from Sweden, Denmark, Norway, Estonia, Poland, Germany, France, Canada and the UK shed a light on the latest policy developments and market opportunities in their post countries. Although Russia’s war against Ukraine has resulted in some temporary setbacks in the green transition, the ongoing crisis will likely accelerate the transition to greener fuels in the medium term. The imperative to end the dependency on fossil-fuels will continue to provide Finnish expertise and solutions market opportunities globally.

Foundation forum 9.12.

TRAF invited several companies – TRAF members and others – that are active in foundation designs, manufacturing and ice management. All invited companies were present or online: Aker Arctic, Boskalis Terramare, Destia, Elomatic, EPV, Lujabetoni, Peikko, Ponvia, Savcor, SSAB, Suomen Hyötytuuli, Teknos. Companies, persons and offerings were presented, and various challenges and solutions were discussed. It was concluded that the market opportunity is close and huge in offshore renewables, which suggests that cooperation would bring value for all stakeholders. Discussion was useful and feedback good for the forum.
